The idea for Dear Lucy was born when our Founder and CEO Taina Sipilä was in charge of growing Sympa - a SaaS-company providing HR software for a global user base.

Taina co-founded Sympa with her brother Keijo Karjalainen in 2005. The team had very ambitious growth targets and getting a real-time view of sales performance across the organization was pivotal to success.
As a CEO, Taina had to identify what worked and what did not, and keep the team focused on doing the right things for growth. Communicating goals and progress to the sales team, to the management team, and to board and investors was a major part of the role and took a lot of manual work.
One of the Fastest-growing Cloud HR Suite Vendors
Sympa has been one of the fastest-growing cloud HR suite vendors in the Nordics and has been listed on several occasions on the Red Herring’s list of most promising growth companies and Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 list.
Today, Sympa employs 140 employees in 8 offices in 5 countries and has revenues of over 10 million euros.
Dear Lucy is Born
Taina established Dear Lucy in 2014. Taina wanted to work on exactly the type of challenges she had faced as a CEO of a growing software company.
She found it fascinating to see how access to real-time data was making teams smarter and more able to reach their goals. Taina wanted to build a solution that enables sales executives and business owners to track, manage and forecast sales in real-time: effectively & effortlessly.
A New Chapter for Sympa
This week, Sympa announced a major milestone in its growth: American private equity firm Providence Equity Partners has acquired a majority stake in the company.
